Homemade Play Dough

We were invited to a birthday party for our new little friend Indie.  Indie is turning three.  She has been our downstairs neighbor for the past month and my girls enjoy playing with her in the yard and at the beach. Indie loves playing in the water, doing arts and crafts and playing with other kids.

We received the invitation to the party the day after we had been in town shopping and we don't yet have our gift stockpile restarted so the girls and I decided we would have to be creative and come up with a homemade gift for her.It didn't take my girls long to figure out just what Indie needed: Playdough!  We whipped up two batches of scented, edible Kool-Aid playdough.

Playdough Recipe:

In a medium mixing bowl combine:
1 1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. salt
1 t. cream of tartar

bring to a boil:
1 cup of water

remove water from heat and add:
1 package of Kool-Aid flavored drink mix, unsweetened

stir until Kool-Aid is dissolved.  Add:
1 T. oil

Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix thoroughly by hand or with a mixer.  Add more flour if necessary to reach your desired consistency.  Knead warm dough to cool and to smooth out the dough.

Store dough in an airtight container when not in use.
