Not a hot shopping week

I ended up only grabbing some milk at the store last week and forfeited the rest of my list--prices just weren't that great. The ads this week all look pretty exciting but really the prices are, again, not very good.

There are a couple items you should not pass up like the produce coupons in the Saar's ad. I will be getting 54 lbs of produce from Saar's for $15.00. This includes potatoes, apples, oranges, tomatoes, avocados, broccoli, grapes, and kiwis. The apples are an especially good price, 29 cents/lb. There are two apple coupons in the ad and each has a limit of 7 lbs but you can purchase additional for 38 cents/lb, still an excellent price. This is the last week to use these competitor coupons at Albertsons so take advantage of it while you can.

Speaking of Albertsons the cereal and free milk splash on the bottom-front of this week's ad is a pretty good deal. They have advertised "buy 7 boxes of Kellogg's & get 3 gallons free!" Selected Kellogg's are on sale for 3/$5. Purchasing 7 would be a total of $11.66, not horrible but not great either. However, if you figure you've got to buy milk anyways and the best price you can get it for right now is $2 a gallon (QFC) then you can treat the 3 Free milks like a $6 coupon against your Kellogg's bringing your total down to $5.66 for 7 boxes of Kellogg's--That's a good price.

There are two important notes to be aware of with the Kellogg's
  1. The coupon for milk is good for your next shopping trip. If you want to use it the same day you will have to purchase your milk in a seperate transaction AFTER you purchase your Kellogg's.
  2. Down at the bottom of the splash in small font it states "up to $14 value". This is important because sometimes the coupons Alby's prints out will specifically say "3 gallons of milk" and sometimes it will be more vague and say "up to $14 worth of milk". If it prints out the former then you may be able to get more milk, especially if you get the generic.
If you are looking for a good price on meat this week there are deals abounding on Pork. Saar's has Pork Shoulder Butt Roast for an unheard of 87 cents/lb. I don't often shop at Saar's and very rarely buy meat there but this week I am tempted. It's the perfect cut of meat for pulled pork. QFC also has the Natural Pork Shoulder Roast selling for 99 cents a pound.

Some other meat deals you may be interested in this week
  • Fred Meyer--Foster Farms Fresh Whole Fryer Chickens 79 cents/lb
  • Albertsons- Boneless Pork Sirloin Chops or Roasts, Boneless Pork Top Loin Roasts, Beef Cross Rib Roasts, Bulk Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts each for $1.88/lb
  • Safeway--Rancher's Reserve Beef Round Tip or Rump Roast $1.99/lb
That's all I've got for you today. I'm off now to bake more bread, make a dessert for an awards banquet tonight, pick up some paper goods for the coach (for the banquet), wash some potatoes for tommorow's Potato Feed at the school, run Afton to violin lessons, and finish the pattern alterations on the WEDDING DRESS I'M SEWING! (yeah! more on that tommorow.)
Don't forget to pick up your Albertson's "rebate rewards" cards now through April 16th. Don't know what that is? Allow me to explain.

  1. So does this mean that Albertson's not doing competitor's coupons anymore, or that they're just not taking Saar's?

    Thanks for the heads-up!
